EAGF Congress & Fossil-Fuel-Free Transport Vision

The EAGF congress convened delegates from across the region to discuss electric mobility, climate resilience, and regional green cooperation.

The Eastern Africa Greens Federation (EAGF) congress opened at Hotel Olympic Kimironko in Kigali, bringing together delegates from Green political parties across the East African region. The congress was officially opened by EAGF President Dr Frank Habineza, who also leads the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR). Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among Green parties, environmental protection and climate change response, sustainable agriculture, capacity building for Green parties in political engagement, and harmonizing national policies for biodiversity conservation. A major theme was the strategic transformation of rising fuel prices into an opportunity for electric mobility. Rwanda's new directive requiring 30% of new public institution vehicles to be electric was highlighted as a landmark policy. Delegates included Charles Bbaale (Vice President EAGF, Uganda), Sharon Katuura (Executive Director EAGF), Lucie Kagendo Mbae (Green Congress of Kenya, Secretary of Global Greens), Beyle Guy Mukunzi (Treasurer EAGF, Burundi), and Hon. Said Mohamed Mohamoud (Secretary General, Somalia Green Party).
